Default Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis

I'm sure you're thinking, "No way can that be right. He probably means a localization of an old game that comes on a new cartridge..."

No, that's not what this is. It's a brand new, ground-up RPG for the Genesis. It started out at Eidolon's Inn where it was called "Tavern RPG".

I've played a demo for this game, and it was OK. Though, a lot of the things I had problems with have been addressed, and they said they are going to make them better.

Also, if you happen to own a Sega CD, you're able to play the CD and the cartridge in conjunction with each other. So if you have a Sega CD, you'll be able to take advantage of that. Though, I've read that it's not necessarily redbook audio, due to the size constraints of having the whole game's soundtrack being on there.

It seems pretty cool. A full-fledged Sega Genesis (Mega-Drive to those outside the States) game after all these years, and an RPG at that. We all know the genesis could've used more of those.

It costs $35 to preorder it (I don't know if you can buy it after the initial run or not...) and it's supposed to come out early 2009. (Pushed back from December 24th, but one of the team members left and they had to redo his work)

website: Pier Solar - The new Sega Megadrive/Sega Genesis and Mega CD/Sega CD RPG

It's also gotten some press lately. Apparently it may end up on XBLA at some point in the future:

That is really cool. I love when new releases come out for older systems.

This is pretty awesome. I'm really tempted to preorder it. If only we knew if it'd be good. :-/

i may very well order it either way.

i sold my genesis/sega cd (they wouldn't take the 32x) and all the games when i got my ps1 way back when but i've been tempted to reacquire them and relive the joy from way back before sega broke my heart. unfortunately i sold the 32x on ebay to some guy in spain just last year so now i'd need to get that back too.

i've been looking into my options here but i'll probably order this whether i get the genesis back immediately or not.

Yeah, I had a huge Genesis/Sega CD/32X collection that I sold a few years ago for over $400. Didn't think I'd miss it since it had been in a box for years, but of course now I do. Just started buying up Genesis stuff again, but I need to get my hands on a Sega CD.

Keep an eye on ShopGoodWill.com's auctions. You can usually get a Genesis pretty cheap.

This is the kind of game that would be PERFECT for me to play on my CDX!

I may have to look into this. $35 isn't that bad.
The game's looks remind me a bit of Lunar.

Also... Cade... they have a demo on the website... check the Media section.

This looks really cool. I just might preorder this one myself. I guess I'll have to bring the Genesis out of retirement!

I watched the video they have on the site. It looks ... competent. I'll have to try out the demo first.

I'll probably have to get this. Even if it turns out to be not so great, the concept alone makes it a must have in my collection.

Wonder if it'll run on my JVC X'eye? I don't have a working Sega CD.
