Re: Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis
... And it is still delayed.
http://www.piersolar.com/pier-solar-news.php
I've been visiting the site for the last year hoping it would get close to completion. Once it gets relatively close I am hoping to pre-order, but the last post is over two months old now...
Later.

Re: Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis
I don't understand what their problem is. They used to do regular updates, but then on their own forums and at a sega-16 I keep seeing, "Oh well people wouldn't like a bunch of meaningless updates, we were getting a lot of complaints."
Not sure why they'd be getting complaints about too many updates.
They've let a good number of things slip over at their thread at Sega-16 that hints it's mostly just busywork left.

Re: Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis
Well it's been a long time coming, but it looks like we're actually getting close to a release
Checking the website last week I saw that all the pre-orders are completely sold out and they're getting close to finishing up testing. I got an email today asking me to confirm my shipping address so I think we actually will see the release some time soon!

Re: Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis
Wow, I didn't pay attention to the fact that they were limiting the copies so much. Oh well. I really didn't want to wait two years on my pre-order, hehe.
I'll see if I can get one of the final-batch copies, but I don't have a whole lot of confidence in that...

Re: Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis
Is this game just a glorified RPGMaker fan game, or will it be the next Phantasy Star IV?

Re: Pier Solar - brand new RPG for the Genesis
Looks like a lovingly crafted RPG to me which seems really interesting, but really I also kinda looked at it as a brand new Sega Genesis/Sega CD game in proper Sega style packaging and how many more of those do you think we'll ever see?

Wow, I canceled my pre-order a year back. Wasn't I supposed to have this 2 years ago?

Trouble is they're on Phantasy Star X at this point, not V.
Part of the cool thing about retro releases is doing something fun, something original, or something that was never really intended for that system. The cart + CD set up is really interesting to me and just about as "original" and "unintended" as you can get for an independent release. I still wonder if they are doing the same RAM cart expansion idea that Sega did for the Saturn in Japan.
Trouble was the demo and the early vids from the game were merely "meh", and the game, like SinfoniaSam says, was delayed so long I had to really wonder if my $35 was ever going to turn into a real product. So I waited.
I'd like to buy the game largely because I enjoy both independent releases like this as well as retro releases, but truth is I'd probably never play more than a few hours of it. For every one independent/retro release like Irides that makes me say "Wow, that is pretty cool", there's another ten games like Beggar Prince, BattleSphere or Last Hope that I've gotta say "meh" or "that sucks" to.
I don't expect much. Sometimes I get surprised.
I know if I buy this game aftermarket now, it'll be my wallet that gets surprised whether or not the game is any good.
Later.
