The darling of Kickstarter — the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset is no longer the indie developers' dream it once was. Facebook announced that it would be purchasing Oculus VR, the makers of Oculus Rift for $2 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014. It was once touted strictly as a gaming device, but CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook plans to use its technology for media, communications, and other forms of entertainment; touting VR as having the potential to be the next great computing evolution.
